{"id":9383,"date":"2022-01-05T03:57:07","date_gmt":"2022-01-05T03:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/green.cloud\/docs\/docly-documentation\/content\/instructions-for-installing-node-js-12-on-centos-7\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T00:45:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T00:45:44","slug":"instructions-for-installing-node-js-12-on-centos-7","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/green.cloud\/docs\/instructions-for-installing-node-js-on-centos-7\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Install Node.js on CentOS 9 Stream"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Introduction<\/h2>\n<p>Node.js is a JavaScript runner for server-side programming.\u00a0It allows developers to create extensible backend functionality using JavaScript, a language many people are familiar with in browser-based web development.<\/p>\n<p>In the article, we will show you how to install Node.js on CentOS 9 simply and easily.<\/p>\n<h2>Install Node.js on CentOS 9 Stream<\/h2>\n<p>To install Node.js 12 on CentOS 9 we follow these 3 steps.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"ftoc-heading-3-2\">Step 1: SSH into your CentOS 9 server<\/h4>\n<p>To install Node.js on CentOS 9 stream, we need to\u00a0 <strong>SSH<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0or access your\u00a0\u00a0<strong>VPS<\/strong> \u00a0or server with\u00a0<strong>root privileges <\/strong>first.<\/p>\n<p>After successfully\u00a0\u00a0<strong>SSH<\/strong>, we continue with step 2 to perform the update of the CentOS operating system.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 2: Update CentOS<\/h4>\n<p>To update CentOS operating system we execute the following command.<\/p>\n<pre class=\" prettyprinted\"><span class=\"pln\">dnf update\r\ndnf groupinstall <span class=\"str\">\"Development Tools\"<\/span>\r\n<\/span><\/pre>\n<p>Depending on what internal software you use will have a different interface.<\/p>\n<p>After the update is successful, we continue with step 3 to execute the commands to install Node.js on CentOS 9 stream.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 3: Commands to install Node.js on CentOS 9 stream.<\/h4>\n<p>We use the commands to install Node.js on CentOS 9 stream. as below. I will explain the commands right below so that you can clearly understand the function of each command.<\/p>\n<pre class=\" prettyprinted\"><span class=\"pln\">dnf install nodejs\r\n<\/span><span class=\"pln\">curl <\/span><span class=\"pun\">-<\/span><span class=\"pln\">o<\/span><span class=\"pun\">-<\/span><span class=\"pln\"> https<\/span><span class=\"pun\">:<\/span><span class=\"com\">\/\/raw.githubusercontent.com\/nvm-sh\/nvm\/v0.35.2\/install.sh | bash<\/span><span class=\"pln\">\r\nwget <\/span><span class=\"pun\">-<\/span><span class=\"pln\">qO<\/span><span class=\"pun\">-<\/span><span class=\"pln\"> https<\/span><span class=\"pun\">:<\/span><span class=\"com\">\/\/raw.githubusercontent.com\/nvm-sh\/nvm\/v0.35.2\/install.sh | bash\r\n<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><strong>Explanation of the above commands:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Command 1:<\/strong> Node.js is available on the CentOS Stream 9 base repository.
