On CentOS, the system time zone is set during installation, but can easily be changed afterwards. This article describes how to set or change the time zone on CentOS Stream 9.<\/p>\n

1.Check current time zone<\/h4>\n

timedatectl<\/code>\u00a0is a command-line utility that allows you to view and change the system\u2019s time and date. It is available on all modern systemd-based Linux systems:<\/p>\n

# timedatectl<\/strong><\/pre>\n
The output shows the system\u2019s timezone. In this example the timezone is set to Europe\/Berlin :<\/p>\n

The system timezone is configured by symlinking\u00a0\/etc\/localtime<\/code>\u00a0to a binary timezone identifier in the\u00a0\/usr\/share\/zoneinfo<\/code>\u00a0directory. Another option to check the timezone is to show the path the symlink points to using the\u00a0ls<\/code> command:<\/p>\n
$ ls -l \/etc\/localtime<\/strong><\/pre>\n

2. Changing Timezone in CentOS<\/h4>\n
Before changing the timezone, you\u2019ll need to find out the long name for the timezone you want to use. The timezones are using \u201cRegion\/City\u201d format.<\/p>\n
To list all available time zones invoke the\u00a0timedatectl<\/code>\u00a0command with the\u00a0list-timezones<\/code>\u00a0option:<\/p>\n

Once you identify which time zone is accurate to your location, run the following command as root or user with sudo privileges\u00a0:<\/p>\n
