A remote access service (RAS) is any combination of hardware and software to enable the remote access tools or information that typically reside on a network of IT devices.<\/p>\n

Microsoft Remote Access Server (RAS) is the predecessor to Microsoft Routing and Remote Access Server (RRAS). RRAS is a Microsoft Windows Server feature that allows Microsoft Windows clients to remotely access a Microsoft Windows network.<\/p>\n

A remote access service connects a client to a host computer, known as a remote access server. The most common approach to this service is remote control of a computer by using another device which needs internet or any other network connection.<\/p>\n

There are many reasons for the above error. In this article, we will guide you through some methods to fix Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) not starting errors on Windows<\/p>\n

Method 1. Edit the RasMan key<\/h3>\n

Modify the SvcHostSplitDisable<\/strong> value in Registry Editor<\/strong> to fix the problem on your own.<\/p>\n

Step 1. Press Windows Key + R<\/strong> to open the Run dialog box. Type in \u201cregedit<\/strong>\u201d and press OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 2. Navigate here:<\/p>\n

Computer\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\RasMan<\/pre>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 3. On the opposite side of the page, identify the \u201cSvcHostSplitDisable<\/strong>\u201d value.<\/p>\n
a. If you can\u2019t see this value, you have to create it on your own.<\/p>\n
b. Then, right-tap on anywhere of the right-part of the Registry Editor. Then, click \u201cNew><\/strong>\u201d and tap \u201cDWORD (32-bit) Value<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n
c. Name this as \u201cSvcHostSplitDisable<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 4. Then, double-tap the value so that you can edit it.<\/p>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 5. Set the value to \u201c1<\/strong>\u201c. Then, tap \u201cOK<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 7. Now, get to this location on your computer<\/p>\n
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\RemoteAccess<\/pre>\n

Step 8. If you look on the right side of the screen, you will see the \u201cSvcHostSplitDisable<\/strong>\u201d value again (If you don\u2019t see this value, you have to manually create it again, following the steps we have shown before).<\/p>\n
Step 9. Double-click<\/strong> this value.<\/p>\n

Step 10. Just set this value to \u201c1<\/strong>\u201d and hit Enter to save<\/strong> this change.<\/p>\n

Close the Registry Editor page that you have opened up. After this, you can restart<\/strong> your computer to save this change.<\/p>\n
Method 2. Disable the IPv6 using regedit<\/h3>\n
Without an additional registry edit, you can disable the IPv6 protocol on the affected machine.<\/p>\n
Step 1. Press Windows Key + R<\/strong> to open the Run dialog box. Type in \u201cregedit<\/strong>\u201d and press OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 2. Navigate here:<\/p>\n
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\Tcpip6\\Parameters<\/pre>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 3. Now, directly right-click on the right-hand side. Then, to create a new value, use \u201cNew><\/strong>\u201d and \u201cDword (32-bit) Value<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n

Step 4. Name this value as \u201cDisabledComponents<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 5. Make sure to paste this value in the \u2018Value Data<\/strong>:\u2019 box. Then, tap \u201cOK\u201c.<\/p>\n

Finally, after doing all these things, exit the Registry Editor window. After this, you can restart your computer to save this change.<\/p>\n
Method 3. Make sure RRAS is enabled and autostarted<\/h3>\n
Sometimes the RRAS is disabled on the system, you can enable and start the service.<\/p>\n
Step 1. Type \u201cservices<\/strong>\u201d in the search box and hit Enter directly to open that.<\/p>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 2. Then, go to find the \u201cRouting and Remote Access<\/strong>\u201d service. Double-tap to open that service.<\/p>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 3. On the General<\/strong> tab, switch the \u2018Startup type:\u2019 to \u201cAutomatic(Delayed Start)<\/strong>\u201d mode.<\/p>\n
\"\"<\/p>\n
Step 4. Go to the \u201cRecovery<\/strong>\u201d mode. Set the \u2018Subsequent failures:\u2019 to \u201cRestart the Service<\/strong>\u201d mode there and set the \u2018Restart service after:\u2019 to \u201c2<\/strong>\u201d minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 5. Finally, click \u201cApply<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cOK<\/strong>\u201d to save these changes.<\/p>\n
Method 4. Restart the RRAS<\/h3>\n
If the registry fix doesn\u2019t solve the issue, try restarting the Routing and Remote Services.<\/p>\n
Step 1. Press Windows Key + R<\/strong> to open the Run dialog box. Type in \u201cservices.msc<\/strong>\u201d and press OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 2. Find the \u201cRouting and Remote Access<\/strong>\u201d service right-click the service and tap \u201cStart<\/strong>\u201d if the service hasn\u2019t started. If it is running, click \u201cRestart<\/strong>\u201d to restart the same service.<\/p>\n

Then check again.<\/p>\n
